A short overview of TDX's FCC frequency awareness

DAILY updates from FCC frequency databases

Currently most RF planning tools focus first on coverage and propagation. When the plan is completed, it is passed to the frequency coordinators who determine if any of the proposed RF emitters interfere with existing licensees and their equipment. If any are found then the plan must be sent back for revision to avoid creating or being subject to inference. This process can be iterative, require a lengthy review period that is error prone and relies on multiple parties to get to the final result. This RF planning/interference "loop" is inefficient, can be a costly, time consuming and prone to error.

TDX addresses this issue with the coordination effort being first and foremost and the path calculation and/or coverage following. This eliminates the RF planning/interference loop making the process more efficient, less prone to error and saves time and costs. And it’s all done within the same tool.

TDX’s “frequency aware” planning gets it right the first time.
When the planning routes are in congested areas it is normal to encounter numerous frequency planning issues. Without knowing where the bottlenecks are, a project engineer can spend enormous amounts of time selecting the right band much less the best choice of carrier frequencies.

TDX’s frequency analyzer is a powerful tool that allows the planner to specify the parameters of the problem. By taking all other frequencies into account, TDX’s analyzer makes the best choice decision.

These decisions can also impact the path or network availability. It’s best to make these decisions with an awareness of network type and end-to-end criteria.

By combining all of these functions into one tool the number of iterations goes down, the time goes down and the quality goes up.

How TDX uses OpenStreetMaps elements to help your design

OpenStreetMap Elements are current and provide for insightful analysis

Open Street Maps is an open source tool that is updated constantly with the most current information that is used when studying interference cases.

OSM Elements can tell a planner such things as where people are, bike lanes, walk paths, etc. In addition, structures can be determined in both a 2D layout and a 3D height.

TDX can handle all types of databases and user datasets. With TDX it is not problematic whether the legacy data set be File Maker, CSV or some other type. Each of these data specs can be dealt with equally well.

User data can also be ingested which allows for eXplorer’s many data handling routines to be used equally well irrespective of type.

The network type – hub-and-spoke, ring, star, etc. impacts network availability calculations. In many cases it is not known exactly what type of network is required to solve a problem. Further it is not uncommon for the planner to be flexible with regard to the network type in exchange for higher reliability.

TDX can analyze multiple scenarios and do the “what-ifs” for the planner so that the proper network type is considered simultaneously as the frequency selection.

These steps are no longer necessarily sequential but can be solved concurrently yielding improved time to market and accuracy.

In addition, shortest route calculations and routing are integral. TDX makes this tedious task simple when solved in the aggregate.

How TDX determines line of sight (LOS) availability

Networks can be built automatically based on some simple user-defined rules

The TDX LOS feature shows where there is a high probability of two points being able to communicate without interference. Lists are made of these points specific to a building’s location.

Multiple lists can be assessed for a common path. When a common path is found then this assessment can be run again with some user input to targets those sets of paths that can be “seen” end to end.

In this way it is possible to build multiple span radio networks with minimal input from the user.
